Yorkshire Born and Bread

Haighs Bakery, is a traditional family-run firm based in Guiseley, established over 72 years ago and renowned for their quality baking and consistency over the years. Haighs Bakery are now diversifying into the ever-growing market of lower carb products supplying consumers direct with their new LoCho range of lower carb bread that doesn’t compromise taste or texture.

Adam Haigh, owner, and his team spent much of the lockdown period developing the ingredients and perfecting the flavour and bite of the bread, leaning heavily on the 3 power seeds that are the key ingredient to this ground-breaking product. Securing additional business funding through local LEP support to invest in machinery and new technology was a considered decision to develop the product and the business alike.

“Lower carb doesn’t mean lower satisfaction.” Said Adam. “Our ingredients are all 100% natural, sustainably sourced and our customer promise is freshness from our oven to your door.  The carb content of our LoCho bread consistently sits within the parameters of what is acceptable for the low-carb market, meaning we have done all the hard work for our customers. So, no more counting carbs, our nutritious bread is also low in sugar and high in protein, packed with fibre and never compromises on quality or taste.”

“The lower carb market is growing exponentially, and our products are head and shoulders above the competition, our place in this market is due to the quality of our bread. Our experience dictates our confidence, we understand the customer needs in this important market sector. They are more savvy now, and expect options, our forebearers would be proud of how we have adapted during this challenging time for a traditional business like our own.”

The LoCho name is derived from the chemical formula – CH2O – of the carbohydrate component in the bread recipe which is lower than traditional bread products coming in at below 6g per 100g serving.

The lower carb collection comes in recyclable packaging and the branding is contemporary, making it stand out in the crowd. The bread is launching online initially with the sliced loaf and the multi-roll pack variants available to buy direct from the bakery with a next working day delivery service.  Ideally suited for freezing with a long shelf-life of over 8 days, it ticks all the healthy lifestyle and convenience boxes.
