90 new jobs as University research hub gets green light

Plans by the University of Nottingham to build at new research facility for advanced energy use have been given the green light by the City Council.

The GERA Building, which will be located at the University’s Jubilee campus, has been designed by Lewis & Hickey. The new buildig will be a four-storey academic research facility – part of the Energy Research Accelerator, a cross-discplinary and multi-partner research hub in the Midlands. It will create some 87 jobs.

The 27,000 sq ft development will provide laboratory and office space as well as support ancillary accommodation for the Geo-Energy Systems Accelerator (G-ERA) focusing on next generation gaseous-related technologies.

The GERA building will be of BREEAM “Excellent” standard. The University wants to start on site in February with a mooted completion of date of “early 2018”.

BWB has been named as structural engineer on the project, while building services will be carried by Crouch Perry Wilkes.
