Football team score sponsorship deal with millionaire businessman

Borrowash Victoria under 21s

A MILLIONAIRE businessman has given his backing to an under 21s grassroots football team.

Energy Save, run by Jason Rowan, has been announced as the main sponsor for Borrowash Victoria under 21s, who play in the WVH north Midlands Development League, alongside teams such as Belper Town, Ilkeston FC and Sheffield United.

Rowan hit the headlines recently with news that he is moving his expanding business from Spondon to Ilkeston and taking on more staff.

Energy Save’s sponsorship will cover all costs including training tracksuits, equipment, match balls and cones. Energy Save will also have a stand at the ground which is located at The Bowl in Borrowash. The company’s logo has also been put on the first teams’ shirts.

Chair of Borrowash Victoria AFC, Frazer Watson, said: “The cost just to turn up and play is in excess of £100, without sponsorship we would have to find it somewhere else.

“There is also the cost of training, equipment, flood lights and upkeep of the stadium. Normally you would have three, four or five different sponsors but what Energy Save has done is make it so amenable. It’s absolutely fabulous, everything we need is covered. The money will go such a long way in getting better opportunities for the players.”

Rowan said: “I’m a big football fan so when the club approached us about sponsoring Borrowash Victoria under 21s I was more than happy to offer my support.

“It is important to support grassroots football and give young players the opportunity to progress and develop their skills. We are excited about what the future holds for the team.”

Borrowash Victoria AFC, founded in the summer of 1911, won the Charter Standard Development Club of the year last year.

The under 21s are a new team that formed after the club’s reserves team disbanded. It aims to bridge the gap between the junior team and the first team.
