Mixed-use plan for historic Nottingham building

A Nottingham building that pre-dates in the industrialisation of the Lace Market area of Nottingham is set to be turned into offices and flats.

Belfast developer Green Door has been given the go-ahead by Nottingham City Council to turn the delipidated 41 Pilcher Gate house into a mixed use scheme of two offices and five flats.

41 Pilcher Gate is the only surviving house dating back to 1700 when the area was occupied by orchards and the nearby St. Mary’s church was the dominant feature of the skyline of Nottingham.

A statement from architects Franklin Ellis said: “The existing buildings will require careful restoration and refurbishment to undo decades of under-use and neglect.

“The scheme will have substantial benefits for the site, would make an enormous contribution
to the improvement of the now fully restored Lace Market area.”

Franklin Ellis says that a series of previous schemes have never come to fruition “despite
strong marketing efforts to arrive at an economically viable solution.”

The firm says that residential use is the only sustainable solution which would allow a long-term occupancy of the building.
