A Leicestershire company, specialising in the design and supply of synthetic sports surfaces, has secured funding to launch a new product which it says will “revolutionise” the construction of synthetic sports pitches.

Notts Sport, based in Lutterworth, has received the funding from Barclays. The cash will be used to open the first sports site constructed from their new ‘Shockwave’ product, later this month at a school in Leeds.

Founded in 1984, the company supplies a range of sports surfaces to schools, universities and sports facilities. For the past two years the company has been developing its’ new ‘Shockwave’ product which lowers the impact on joints and meets higher regulations for rugby, football and American football. It eliminates the need for tarmac and offers improved shock absorbency. The product has been extensively tested by Loughborough University and Mira.

Shaun Patrick, chairman of Notts Sport said: “We have worked hard to develop a product which meets higher regulatory standards as well as having environmental benefits, reduced construction time and recyclable elements.

“Since my father started the business in 1984, we have always strived to add value to the relationships we enjoy with our clients, looking for new, innovative ways of building on the quality of our product range.

“We are very excited about the opening of our first project using the Shockwave product later this month and we believe this will open up new markets for us, particularly in the US.”

Richard Parker, relationship director at Barclays in Leicester said: “Notts Sport have worked hard to bring to market a leading product that has been a number of years in the making. The company has clear direction for growth and anticipates increasing its turnover from £5 to £8 million in the next three years. I am delighted to be working with them and look forward to visiting their first site using their Shockwave system.”

The company employs 25 staff from its head office in Lutterworth and is the official partner to England Hockey.
