West Bridgford sportswear firm signs multimillion-pound US deal

West Bridgford-based sportswear firm PlayerLayer has signed a multimillion pound deal to become the exclusive UK licence partner of American sports apparel giant Under Armour.

As part of the agreement, PlayerLayer will become known as Dreamsport in its partnership with Under Armour and continue to trade as PlayerLayer in other areas of its business.

The deal will allow PlayerLayer, which was founded in Nottingham by four sport enthusiasts in 2009, to invest further in its operations.

Chris Bate, Under Armour vice-president and managing director for Europe, added: “As Under Armour continues to grow across UK and Europe, we aspire to innovate relentlessly in all our sports products and we feel that Dreamsport is the perfect partner to grow our expanding teamwear business.

“Its agile and forward-thinking business complements our strategy, which will equip teams of all levels with customised kits, to make them the best athletes they can be in training, competition and recovery.”

Fraser Brown has advised West Bridgford-based PlayerLayer, which supplies sportwear to national and international clubs including the England women’s lacrosse team, on the licence terms and related legal issues.

Corporate partner at Fraser Brown, Tom Gray, worked with PlayerLayer on this deal, he said: “PlayerLayer is a fantastic, emerging prestige brand. It has been a pleasure to act for the business from its inception and see our support help the brand rapidly establish itself in the marketplace.

“In taking on the Under Armour license, the company will now see a further surge in its progression and we look forward to supporting the business with the opportunities and growth that this will bring.”
