Debt solutions firm expands in Nottingham

Paul Mallatratt

Nottingham-based debt solutions firm Bridgewood is expanding after hiring two new members to its team.

Andy Appleyard and Paul Mallatratt join the firm, which is based at Poynt South on Upper Parliament Street.

Appleyard, who joins as consultant, graduated from Nottingham University with a Law Degree before qualifying as a chartered accountant with Deloitte in the city.

He started insolvency work in 1989 as an appointment taker with Smith & Williamson, before moving on to Haines Watts, RSM Tenon and Baker Tilly, managing the personal insolvency departments in Birmingham, Nottingham and Leeds before retiring in 2015 to spend a year in Australia.

Appleyard said: “I was tempted to come out of retirement by the friendly environment and a shared belief that Bridgewood has the capacity to be an industry disruptor based on it having a low cost base and offering voluntary fee caps such that creditors can receive dividends even in low value insolvencies.”

Mallatratt has joined Louise Carrington as an insolvency practitioner

Mallatratt specialises in personal insolvency and investigation work, and brings 20 years of insolvency experience to the firm. He started his career at the Insolvency Service, where he was a deputy official receiver, before joining RSM, where he qualified as an insolvency practitioner. He is also an assistant examiner for the industry’s examination board, the JIEB.

He said: “I am delighted to have joined my former RSM colleague Louise and the rest of the Bridgewood team. Bridgewood is a dynamic, friendly and ethical firm where customer service is paramount. I share those values and look forward to building the business further with Louise and the team.”
