Plans revealed to create 140 Edwalton jobs

A planning application has been submitted for a major mixed-use development in the Edwalton area of Nottingham that include an Aldi supermarket and a care home that could create 140 jobs.

The plans outline an 18,500 sq ft supermarket to be built on Landmere Lane in Edwalton, as part of a wider scheme that will include 1,500 houses.

Waitrose had originally been given planning permission to build a supermarket on the site in 2014, but shelved plans. Now, Aldi wants to create 40 jobs, with a further 100 at the new care home, which planning documents say has the backing of Octopus Healthcare.

A planning statement reads: “The introduction of an Aldi food store will introduce much-needed convenience floorspace in the immediate and wider catchment to support the existing and growing population. It will offer choice and competition within the market place, and provide an accessible shopping facility for residents of the sustainable urban extension and beyond.”
