South African group could seal deal for Notts County next week

A deal to buy Notts County could be concluded next week, according to reports.

Nottinghamshire Live says representatives from a South African consortium are set to arrive in the UK next week to talk through a deal for next season, including the future of manager Neal Ardley, the playing budget and a new training ground.

The report suggest an offer from the consortium is set to land on chairman Alan Hardy’s desk by the close of play today (17 May).

However, the consortium could face a challenge from another interested party headed up by Alex May, who, reports say, wants to buy the Magpies and install former Sheffield United player Tony Kenworthy as director of football and keep Hardy on as chairman.

Other names mentioned over the past few weeks have been ex-Port Vale owner Norman Smurfwaite, who attended games at Meadow Lane towards the end of the season.
