Boots manufacturer to shut factory with loss of 800 jobs

D10 Boots building on Thane Road, Beeston

800 jobs are to go after Boots cosmetic manufacturer Fareva is to shut its Beeston factory.

The French company had launched a consultation last July putting the Nottingham site at risk, with plans to move work to its sites in Wales and France.

Retail union USDAW confirmed job cuts are expected to start in April, leading to the closure of the site in June. The D10 building on Thane Road currently manufactures products including No7 and Soltan.

This move marks the first instance of discontinuation of all Boots manufacturing in Nottinghamshire since the company’s inception in 1849 by John Boot.

Despite the manufacturing closure, the site will continue to host business activities such as product testing services, research and development, commercial operations, and procurement activities.

The company has rationalised its decision to relocate from Nottinghamshire by pointing to diminished customer demand.

Customers either brought production in-house or required less business than in pre-COVID times. Fareva stated that this decline in demand led to surplus production capacity at both its UK sites last year.
