How do you relax at the weekend?
I have two boys 12 and 7 and I guess like many of this age they are active in sporting clubs, with cricket and football respectively. I enjoy watching them both at practice sessions and matches, giving appropriate guidance and coaching, which as they become older is becoming less well received!

The rest of the weekend is spent pottering around in the garden and usually involves a long family walk.

I appreciate it is a cliché but the weekends are very much centred around the family and recharging the batteries for the forthcoming week.

One thing which is sacrosanct in our household at the weekend is the traditional Sunday Roast – best meal of the week.

How many hours do you work at the weekend on average?
Because of the demands of the job, and associated hours involved during the working week, I endeavour to keep the weekends free as much as possible, therefore working only on exception.

What’s your favourite…

– holiday destination?
North Cornish Coast, in particular Boscastle, enjoy the challenging coastal walks, the beaches and the relaxed way of life. We have been going for the last decade and each year involves at least one visit. In the summer we tend to head for the Algarve in Portugal where the weather is guaranteed. My wife and I have very different views on which holiday will leave the biggest legacy in the children’s memory – I am firmly in the Cornwall camp, as you never forget catching your first crab!

– book?
I am ashamed to admit I not a great reader, particularly of fiction, so for that reason I will plump for the Chimp Paradox by Dr Steve Peters. I thought it was very insightful and would recommend it for anyone in a leadership role. Usually start a Lee Child novel on holiday and never get passed halfway through it before putting it back on the book shelf never to return to it.

– album?
I have a diverse music taste and rather unusually have a penchant for Trance music and I guess there will be a limited affinity with others here. So, more mainstream, would be ‘Everything this Way’ by Walking on Cars.

– food?
Italian would always be my preference, but I have to say I am quite a picky eater. There are lots of food I don’t eat so I would be a difficult dinner guest, my least favourite is anything involving lamb and I recall a few years ago going to six dinners, consecutively, and the main was lamb! To avoid a similar scenario I tend to go for the vegetarian option but this can be Russian roulette as I don’t eat cheese either!

– TV programme – It would be a tie between Masterchef and the US programme Suites. I like them equally for different reasons, I find watching other people working under pressure and to a tight deadline perversely pleasurable and Suites is well written and engaging.

– website or app? It has to be Spotify, access to everything musically for a small monthly payment – brilliant.

How do you usually spend Sunday evenings?
