Packaging firm wins support

A LANCASHIRE packaging business has benefited from a £1.2 grant from the Northwest Regional Development Agency.

TRM Packaging (TRM), which specialises in corrugated packaging for food manufacturers, has received the cash from the Grants for Business Investment programme.

The Burscough-based firm, which employs 227 staff, will put the money towards a £12m investment in plant and machinery to increase its capacity.

TRM has a 2% share of the £1.3bn corrugated box market. It plans to increase sales from £30m to £40m over the next three years.

Mark Hughes, executive director of economic development at the NWDA said: “TRM Packaging is one of Burcough’s top employers, so it is vital that we ensure that the company does not suffer as a result of the economic downturn, putting 227 jobs at risk.

“The NWDA grant puts TRM in a good position for significant growth – with just a little help from us, the company is well known to offer bespoke packaging solutions to meet a range of customer requirements, including markets that are bucking a declining trend.”
