Property briefs: New images of exhibition centre, and more

NEW images have been released of the planned exhibition centre on Liverpool’s waterfront.

The £40m exhibition centre will have 90,000 sq ft of exhibition space and a 200-bed hotel. The complex will be connected to the BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena by a covered bridge link.

A statement said the design and materials to be used for the façade are influenced by the industrial heritage of the docks.

International construction company ISG, responsible for the construction of the London 2012 Velodrome, was appointed last October to deliver the scheme. Denton Corker Marshall, who designed the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, was appointed as architect in December.

Bob Prattey, chief executive of ACC Liverpool, said: “We are working closely with Liverpool City Council and ISG to develop a strong visual identity for Exhibition Centre Liverpool which complements, but is distinctive from, the existing arena and convention centre.

“We are confident that the development will link the waterfront heritage with modern Liverpool’s reputation as a thriving business community.  Exhibition Centre Liverpool will bring an international exhibition venue to a world landmark site.”

COLLIERS International in Manchester has handled the sale of a Llandudno hotel for around £600,000.

The four-storey Baytree Hotel was sold by June Dickens and her husband who are retiring after 40 years at the venue.

It was acquired by experienced hoteliers who also own the Chatsworth House Hotel and New Loretta Hotel in the town, and will be run by Trevor Mitchell.

Neil Thomson, associate director at Colliers’ hotels agency, said: “Investment by existing hoteliers in Llandudno and throughout North Wales demonstrates that confidence in the market seems to be returning. Although the Licence and Hospitality sector remains challenging, banks now seem keen to talk to buyers who want to purchase a guest house or small hotel, providing the opportunity for operators, who have been keen to sell for some time, the chance to finally exit the market.”

The firm, which occupies over 15,000 sq ft at the site, uses the base to assemble doors and store stock.

Eileen Bilton Partnership has also negotiated a 3,350 sq ft letting to Uber Kuchen on a three-year lease.

Richard Johnson, associate director at Jones Lang LaSalle industrial in Manchester, said: “Signature Doors had been talking to the landlord for several months about taking more space on Gemini Park and when unit 7 became vacant, it gave them an opportunity to expand their business whilst staying on site.”
