Burton’s Biscuits invests £2m at Blackpool factory

BURTON’S Biscuit Company is investing £2m at its manufacturing operation at Blackpool.

The company, which makes Maryland Cookies, Jammie Dodgers and Wagon Wheels, said the investment will allow the factory to step up production and become a “cookie centre of excellence”.

The Blackpool factory employs 600 people who make Cadbury’s Fingers and Maryland Cookies.

The improvements are part of a wider £13.5m investment programme at the group which has been put up for sale for £350m by its owners, Duke Street Capital, Apollo Global Management and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.

Blackpool factory manager Derek Harris said: “Our investment in capabilities such as the new Cookies Centre of Excellence, enables us to continue to lead from the front and keep the market fresh by bringing new and innovative products to market quicker than anyone else – transforming the biscuit aisle.”

Burton’s also employs around 80 staff at a chocolate refining plant at Moreton on the Wirral. It closed a biscuit factory at the site two years ago.
