Styles & Wood swaps shops for solar

STYLES & Wood has won a contract to fit thousands of solar panels.
The Altrincham shopfitting business, which has a renewables arm, has been appointed by Freetricity, a private company which provides solar panels in return for the revenue from the Government’s feed-in tariff scheme.
Freetricity’s roll-out is being financed by the Macquarie Bank and will aim to fit panels on 1,500 a month. The total investment and the number of homes targeted was not disclosed.
Styles & Wood Energy will handle site-surveying, specification and installation for the nationwide programme, which expects to generate more than 30MW of solar power. The company said the programme is the largest of its kind in the UK.
Chief executive Tony Lenehan said: “This is a significant project for the UK residential solar market and reflects Styles&Wood Energy’s growing reputation in the field of renewables installation. This is the largest free solar roll-out of its kind in the UK and we are excited to be part of this leading UK initiative.
“The development of the group’s renewables division was core to our diversification strategy, and this major project demonstrates that the group now has the capability to deliver large scale installation programmes on a national basis.”
