Structural steel company makes 19 redundancies

UP to 19 jobs at structural steelworkers Severfield are being cut as it carries out measures to ensure “operational efficiency”.

Thirteen jobs are going at its site in Lostock, Bolton and six more are to be axed in Dalton, Severfield’s West Yorkshire site.

A spokesperson for the business told TheBusinessDesk.com that the job cuts were unrelated to the wider crisis in the steel industry, most notably the embattled Tata Steel.

They said: “It is rationalisation, we’ve been transparent about operational efficiencies and it’s a programme we talked about in results last year.”

They said the company were offering voluntary redundancy where possible.

Severfield has been busy this past year, having rebranded from Severfield Rowen.

The company generated underlying pre-tax profits of £8.3m on revenues of £201.5m for the year to March 2015.

However problems with the Cheesegrater building in London have resulted in a £6m charge.
