Couple plans major refurb after buying Snowdonia retreat

HUSBAND-and-wife entrepreneurs Simon and Lesley Wilson are planning a major refurbishment of The Padarn Lake Hotel in North Wales after acquiring the business.

The couple acquired three-storey hotel and bar with 16 en-suite letting rooms in the town of Llanberis at the foot of Snowdon in Snowdonia National Park after it was offered for sale from an asking price of £300,000.

The deal was brokered by the specialist licensed and leisure division of real estate advisers Colliers International.

Their renovation plans include redecorating the sports bar with up-cycled sports equipment including a Canadian canoe on the ceiling and transforming the restaurant with measures including a wide selection of posters celebrating the many films made in the area including Tomb Raider 2, James Bond, Clash Of The Titans and Carry on Up The Khyber.

The Wilsons, who have lived in the area for almost 30 years, already operate three local self-catering properties for holidaymakers.

Lesley said: “We plan to renovate the hotel accommodation, sports bar, function room and restaurant to breathe new life into the business and return it to being the popular venue it was for local people and visitors to Snowdonia.

“We’ll be working hard over the new few weeks and hope to reopen the business in time for the summer holiday period.”

Colin Siebert, director, licensed and leisure at the North West offices of Colliers International in Manchester and Liverpool, secured the deal on behalf of a national pub operator and said: “We have enjoyed a strong start to 2016 with the sale of The Padarn Lake Hotel reflecting robust demand throughout North Wales for such properties located in popular tourist destinations.” in North Wales after acquiring the business.
