PI law firms celebrate spectacular growth

TWO Manchester personal injury law firms are reporting spectacular growth.

Express Solicitors has reported 22.5% growth in fee income over the last 12 months with end of year figures increasing to £12.3m.

The firm has also seen its caseloads grow to 8,041 over the same period thanks to increased spend across all areas of its marketing strategy.

In addition, Express Solicitors has expanded its team from 177 employees to 187 including 69 fee earners and 17 partners in the year that it won a £1.9m clinical negligence case and a £1.75m personal injury case.

Express Solicitors managing partner James Maxey said: “Once again we have grown significantly despite the tough sector conditions, thanks to the skill, dedication and passion for justice of the whole team.”

Meanwhile, Clear Law has seen a 173% increase in annual turnover to ££8.2m in 2015.

The company says it has achieved the high level of growth by diversifying to successfully handle large corporate lawsuits.

Sally Dunscombe, director of Annecto Legal LTD., has been working with Clear Law over the past eight years to provide internal resources, and guidance as it restructures.

Dunscombe said new government legislation imposed in 2013 has driven a number of legal firms to exit the personal injury market. But Clear Law’s unconventional approach to continue in the dwindling sector has been instrumental in their success.

“A lot of firms have decided to move away from the lower value, high volume work and moved into larger claims or negligence arena,” she said.

“By contrast, Clear Law has taken the position of rebalancing the ratios of both, since personal injury work provides churn, as they enter the commercial sector.

“They’ve got very ambitious plans to grow the workflow in the firm; one of the things we’re working on at the moment is with insurers, to derisk and fund some of those big misselling financial actions that they are taking forward.”
