Going green key theme at MIPIM

SUSTAINABILITY and the green agenda in Birmingham was the key theme emerging from international property conference MIPIM 2011.

More than 1,000 delegates from across the property industry met with business and civic leaders from the second city in Cannes to see how Birmingham was working on green projects.

The city’s presence in the south of France was being led by Business Birmingham, the inward investment arm of Marketing Birmingham, in conjunction with 19 partners.

Ian Taylor, Marketing Birmingham’s commercial director, told TheBusinessDesk.com that the city’s mission to deliver sustainable buildings and low carbon developments was something they were keen to highlight.

“Bringing green developments to market in the current financial climate is a concern for the property industry globally and, by providing platforms to discuss and debate the issue, the city was genuinely able to lead the ‘green’ agenda.

“Our events programme attracted a diverse range of investors and developers.

“Between our stand, packed events and meeting schedule, we managed to engage with over 1,000 delegates and have had some interesting discussions that could well result in long-term relationships and investment in the city.

“This was the first year that Business Birmingham led Birmingham’s presence at MIPIM.

“Promoting the city at the world’s largest developer conference has played a strategic role in raising international awareness of Birmingham’s current assets and potential for further development.”
