Work starts on new £15m R&D facility

CONSTRUCTION of a new 250,000 sq ft research and development facility near Wolverhampton started this week.

Aerospace manufacturing group Moog announced last autumn that it wanted to move from its current home in Wobaston Road to the neighbouring i54 business park, in Pendeford, safeguarding around 400 jobs.

The building project will be split into two parts, with the 190,000 sq ft, first phase due for completion by November.

Moog manufactures systems which control aircraft and satellites among other vehicles and the i54 base will house the company’s design, development and manufacturing activities.

The project, which is due to open fully in September next year, has been supported by Wolverhampton City Council, Advantage West Midlands and Fusion Building Consultancy.

The commencement of building work follows the announcement at the start of the month that Essex-based McLaren Construction had been appointed as contractor.

Birmingham-based property developer Stoford is leading the project.
