Construction work begins on new logistics hub

CONSTRUCTION work is under way on a new 155,000 sq ft distribution hub for Europa Worldwide Logistics in north Birmingham.

Around 70 jobs will be created when Europa moves its operations from its current base to ProLogis Park Midpoint, in Castle Vale, in July.

The industrial property specialist signed the build-to-suit deal in January as Europa had outgrown its current premises east of Birmingham city centre.

ProLogis Park Midpoint is 65 acres of industrial and distribution park land, north of Junction 5 of the M6, and this new unit will be BREEAM ‘excellent’ and carbon neutral in construction.

Current tenants are The Pallet Network and waste management company Biffa.

Carl Durrant, partner at King Sturge which advised Europa, said: “After considering a number of potential sites and buildings in the region, the proposal at this park was very compelling and offered Europa exactly what they required and the certainty that it could be delivered in the timeframe required.

“We are experiencing an upturn in companies seeking built-to-suit premises and I believe this will be one of the first such transactions with more to follow in the near future.”
