Browne Jacobson sees turnover break the £35m barrier

LAW firm Browne Jacobson has posted a record set of financial results with turnover rising 6.3%.

The firm, which has offices in Birmingham and Nottingham, saw turnover for the year ended April 30, 2011, rise to £35.2m compared with last year’s £33.1m.

With activity levels up 9% year-on-year, the firm has also announced a 2.5% performance award, as part of a firmwide initiative launched last year, to enable staff to share in a successful year.

Over the past 12 months the firm has added a number of high profile clients to its expanding portfolio including Codemasters, The North Face, Bureau Veritas, Lawn Tennis Association, Macintosh Retail Group, Home Retail Group, Methodist Homes, St Andrew’s Healthcare, Guoman Thistle, Consortium of Oxfordshire Councils and Nottingham CityCare Partnership.

In 2010/11, the firm continued investing in key areas by announcing five new partner and 13 associate promotions. The year also saw the arrival of three additional partners, including Peter Ware, from Nottinghamshire County Council, Kate Andrews and Juliette Shaw, bringing the total number of lawyers at the firm to 283, of which 76 are partners.

The firm has also said William Colacicchi will continue in his post as senior partner for a further two years. In March, the firm appointed Dan Simms as its new director of IT and business operations.

Managing partner Iain Blatherwick said: “We are delighted to have broken through the £35m barrier, posting our best ever turnover figures in a market which remains very competitive.

“The growth has been achieved through winning new clients and new work, by working harder and finding innovative ways of delivering our service.

“Once again we did not increase our rates and continue to explore alternative fee options for clients to help provide flexibility and certainty and to acknowledge the pressures which they face.”

The increase in overall activity levels gave rise to confidence for further investment in the firm, he added.
