Traffic Alert: Traffic stopped on the M42 following serious accident

The M42 southbound is closed between Junctions 9 to 7 to allow for recovery of an overturned vehicle. Delays of 90 minutes are being reported and the situation is not expected to clear until around 6pm.

The northbound carriageway has been reopened but there are still delays, although these are easing.

Diversions onto the M6 have been introduced but this is expected to have knock-on delays for rush-hour.

Emergency services have halted traffic on the M42 southbound at Junction 8 – close to its connection with the M6 – following a serious accident.

The stoppage is causing long delays in the area, with the section of motorway between Junctions 7 and 6 currently at a standstill.

Delays of up to 40 minutes are being reported, although the accident is expected to be cleared shortly.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area if possible or to allow extra time for their journeys
