5 things to do in the West Midlands this weekend

Tommy
The Who’s Tommy, a multi-award winning rock musical written by Pete Townshend, is bringing a cast of 22 performers and musicians to the stage this weekend. Taking place at the Birmingham REP theatre, the story follows a pinball-playing boy. Based on the iconic 1969 album, Tommy is a one of a kind show which has been reborn for a new generation. Jurassic Kingdom Dinosaurs
Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens huge summer event begins this weekend. Jurassic Kingdom: Where Dinosaurs Come To Life will see more than 30 life-sized dinosaurs take over the venue. The kids are bound to love this event, where they will be able to look up at the Diplodocus, a whopping 16 metres above the ground, as well as hearing the screeches of the Pterosaurus. You can’t miss the Tyrannosaurus Rex either, standing 18 metres tall. Find out more here.

Gin Festival
Head along to Coventry Cathedral this weekend for the Gin Festival. Organised by GinFestival.com, the event will include over 100 gins to try, alongside a cocktail bar, a wide selection of food, live music and entertainment and the opportunity to meet with the gin distillers in person. If you’re new to gin, there will be recommendations from staff to start you off. The afternoon session on Saturday takes place from 12.30-5pm and the evening session takes place from 6.30pm-11pm. There will be advice on home interior trends, live catwalks and tricks of the trade from top beauty experts, as well as a wide range of food and drink to enjoy. Alexander O’Neal
One of RnB’s most well-known names Alexandra O’Neal brings his 30 Years of Hearsay to the New Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham this weekend. The singer will be joined by a nine-piece band in celebration of his 1987 album Hearsay. Fans can expect to hear classic hits including Criticize, Never Knew Love Like This and Sunshine.
