Walsall truck dealers acquired in undisclosed deal

WALSALL-based commercial vehicle distributor Hartshorne Motor Services has been acquired by truck and bus specialist Crossroads Truck and Bus in an undisclosed deal.

The deal creates one of the largest commercial vehicle distributor groups in Europe with almost 1,000 staff, a turnover of around £200m and a combined experience of almost 100 years in the industry.

Hartshorne, which distributes in the West and East Midlands, was established in 1968 and has 17 locations with nine Volvo dealerships and two service centres providing full parts and service facilities for Volvo Truck & Bus, Hino Trucks, as well as used sales and a range of associated services.

Crossroads, based in Birstall, West Yorkshire, said the tie-up would enable the expanded group to provide services from North Yorkshire to the West Midlands.

Established in 1956, and appointed an independent Volvo distributor in 1967, family-owned Crossroads has grown to operate out of 10 depots and has four managed workshops across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Following the acquisition, Hartshorne and Crossroads will continue to run as two separate companies within the same group.

Martin Cronin, of Crossroads, said: “This is a very proud day for both Crossroads and Hartshorne and is the coming together of two very trusted businesses and the strengthening of two great offerings.

“All businesses need to grow and develop and the perfect synergy between Crossroads and Hartshorne makes this an ideal opportunity for both to move forward.”

David Bachelor, Hartshorne’s managing director, said: “We are delighted with the union as we feel it marks the next chapter in the company’s development.

“Crossroads and Hartshorne share the same integral qualities and commitment to delivering the best possible service to its customers. This marks a very exciting future for us all.”

Crossroads’ clients include Asda, Londis and Next.
