MG named as Britain’s fastest growing automotive brand

BIRMINGHAM carmaker MG Motor UK has been named as the fastest growing vehicle brand in the country for the first three months of this year.

Figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show the Longbridge-based firm saw the fastest growth both for March and the first quarter as a whole.

Between January and March the company saw its year-to-date sales increase by 574%, with much of the success attributed to the launch of the MG3 supermini last autumn.

The firm, part of the Chinese-owned group NAIC, is also optimistic for the remainder of the year, with hopes pinned on the introduction of a new high-tech diesel engine for the MG6 which will make it a potential model for fleet buyers.

The company has also rolled out a plan to expand its UK dealer network to make the cars more accessible to buyers.

It is also maintaining a strategy of offers with special leasing deals and discounts in order to attract new buyers away from rival brands, especially those produced by low-cost manufacturers such as Kia and Hyundai.

The new range of MGs are all designed and engineered at the state of the art European Design and Technical Centre at Longbridge, as well as being assembled in the adjoining factory.
