St Modwen gets approval for large mixed-use scheme in Derbyshire

BIRMINGHAM-based developer St Modwen is to deliver a primary school and contribute £1.5m towards secondary education in Hilton, South Derbyshire, as part of its plans for a mixed-use scheme on a brownfield site.

Councillors on South Derbyshire District Council’s planning committee have given the go-ahead for the new mixed-use development on the former Ministry of Defence Central Vehicle Storage Depot site, off The Mease.

The new community will include up to 485 homes, healthcare facilities and employment opportunities.

The plans were shaped following a public consultation event, when local residents were given the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposals for the site.

Richard Hickman, planning manager at St Modwen, said: “We are very pleased to get the go ahead for our new Hilton development.

“It will be a sustainable community with a primary school, employment opportunities and amenities on the doorstop. The primary school and our substantial contribution towards secondary education responds to some of the key outcomes of the public consultation event.”

Work on the new development is set to begin in 2015.
