Tricorn bolsters board with appointment of former Umeco chief

MIDLANDS engineering group, Tricorn, has bolstered its board with the appointment of Umeco’s former chief executive as a new non-executive director.

Malvern-based Tricorn manufactures and manipulates pipe and tubing assemblies to niche markets worldwide in the Energy and Transportation sectors. It employs around 350 employees and has five manufacturing facilities in China; the United States and the UK. It operates through three brands: Malvern Tubular Products; Maxpower Automotive and Franklin Tubular Products.

New NED Andrew Moss will bring a wealth of experience to the business. He is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with over 30 years’ experience in international engineering groups specialising in aviation, automotive and power electronics products, and advanced composite materials.

His early career was spent with BTR/Invensys, managing a number of international manufacturing businesses, culminating in the post of Chief Executive of a division with sales of approximately £300m year and responsibility for the development of a strategy for the Power Systems division.

More recently, Moss spent 13 years with Umeco – five of which were spent as a main board director, resulting in his appointment as Chief Executive in 2011.  Over this time, he led a transformation programme resulting in the £274m takeover of the composites group in July 2012.

Commenting on the appointment, Mike Welburn, Chief Executive of Tricorn, said: “We are very pleased that Andrew is joining the board.  He has an excellent track record and hands on experience in both Tricorn’s core sectors and in the regions in which we are based.

“He shares our ambition for the business and adds valuable insight into building international engineering operations.  We look forward to his contribution.”
