Bromsgrove base helps Clugston to increase turnover

THE recent establishment of offices in Bromsgrove, to support and develop its construction business in the West Midlands, has made a significant contribution to turnover growth at the Clugston Group of companies.

With interests in construction, facilities management, logistics and property development, the privately owned group has announced a healthy increase in turnover of 9% to £252.9m from £231.2m – the highest in the company’s 78 year history.

However, pre-tax profit fell to £3.3m from £6.3m for the year to 31 January 2015.

The construction division experienced an increase in turnover of 5% from £136.7m to reach £143.3m, the fourth consecutive year of growth.

This was supported by the recent strategic decision to enter the West Midlands construction market, where several key contracts have already been won.

These include a new facility for Birmingham Dogs Home at Solihull, a retail scheme in Cannock and offices and laboratory facilities at the Malvern Hills Science Park.

During the Year the business also undertook work on major Energy from Waste schemes at Shropshire and Oxfordshire whilst the Staffordshire Energy Recovery facility won the West Midlands 2014 Constructing Excellence Award for Legacy/Sustainability.

The division also stepped up production levels in the education sector completing numerous school, college and university projects, whilst commencing work on a University Technical College, one of a new wave of state schools designed to increase vocational skills and build stronger links between schools and employers.

Stephen Martin, Clugston Group chief executive, said, “We are delighted once again to announce such positive financial results, with the recent investment in the West Midlands Office contributing to our record turnover.

“This played no small part in us appearing in the recent London Stock Exchange’s ‘1000 companies to Inspire Britain’, and The Sunday Times Top Track 250.

“Whilst the group operates in highly competitive markets with supply generally exceeding demand, we remain confident for the future.”
