New ‘cosmic’ wines on sale in Yorkshire

TERROIR, the Skipton-based independent Languedoc wine specialist, is hoping its new range of organic wines will help attract new customers.

The biodynamic range forms part of a newly launched wine list sourced by Gemma Crangle, who turned her love affair with Languedoc-Roussillon into a business.

Terroir’s newly hand-picked wine collection has taken around two years to source and introduces more than 15 innovative and visionary new growers and 60 new fine wines including a selection of wines made using biodynamic methods.

Ms Crangle said: “Some of the producers we support go a step beyond organic by using biodynamic methods.

“These recognise that the earth is decreasing in fertility as a result of overuse of chemicals and sees the vineyard as an ecological whole, not just rows of grapevines. Where biodynamics differ from other forms of organic or sustainable agriculture is in its idea that farming can be attuned to the spiritual forces of the cosmos.”

Among the wines offered are those made by Yorkshirewoman Catherine Kinglake, who moved to France in 2004.

The company is also offering new wine made by selected growers in Provence.
