Wildcats deal completed

THE takeover deal that sees rugby league club Wakefield Wildcats bought out of administration has been completed.

Spirit of 1873, a new company named in recognition of the year the original club was formed, has bought the business and assets of the Yorkshire Super League club for an undisclosed sum from joint administrators Peter O’Hara and Simon Weir of O’Hara & Co.

The deal enables the club to honour its fixtures for the Super League season and avoids a winding-up petition brought by HM Revenue and Customs for an unpaid tax bill thought to be in excess of £300,000.

Andrew Glover and chief executive James Elston will sit on the board and run the new club alongside new general manager Davide Longo.
