Plans lodged for residential scheme at former Harrogate fitting works site

A developer has submitted plans for the redevelopment of the former Lancashire Fittings Works at Back Devonshire Place in Harrogate.

It follows Newby’s acquisition of the site off Claro Road which currently comprises a number of vacant commercial and residential units.

Newby is seeking consent to transform the disused site into a residential scheme comprising a mix of converted and new build units, to create a total of 13 two-bedroom and one three-bedroom apartments and cottages.

Part conversion and part new build, each new home will have its own private parking.

The site sits within a predominately residential area close to The Stray and near to Harrogate’s town centre.

The same design and developer team has also recently completed Gascoigne House, a historic conversion on 32 Devonshire Place.

Nick Moody, director at Newby, said: “We are pleased to have submitted the planning for Back Devonshire Place having taken significant care and consideration to repurpose the former Lancashire Fitting Works buildings, which are an important and valuable part of Harrogate’s heritage.

“The regeneration of the former Works, alongside the new dwellings that will be built, aim to create a scheme of the highest quality to help meet housing requirements in the area, whilst also giving future owners of these homes excellent transport links throughout Harrogate and beyond.”
