Tower block sale to fund social housing developments

West Parade, Mixenden

Social landlord Together Housing has sold off a tower block in Calderdale that will help fund its investment programme.

Wheatley Court., Mixenden

East Midlands developer ALB will refurbish Wheatley Court in Mixenden, to the north of Halifax, with the 132 apartments then being rented or sold.

Together Housing will put the sale proceeds into the £75m Calderdale Investment Partnership, that is funding the development of 500 homes in the area.

Together Housing’s property services director George Paterson said: “By selling off properties we can invest that money into new and better homes that suit every budget.

“The sale of these properties will feed into the wider investment partnership we have with Calderdale Council, which will see 500 homes built across Calderdale over the next few years.”

The deal also sees ALB acquire properties in West Parade.

Arran Bailey, managing director of ALB, added: “Together Housing has already replaced the cladding and we will be investing in a sprinkler system, which will provide a safe, modern tower block which people are proud to call home. We hope our commitment and investment will spread beyond Mixenden to other local areas.”
