In Brief: Bartuf helps bring greeting cards to life; Barkston launches ‘green’ website; and more

LEEDS-based Bartuf Systems, which manufactures retail display systems, has designed and installed a number of augmented reality (AR) greetings cards units as part of a trial of the technology in Marks and Spencer stores.

The AR technology allows the recipient of the card to view a 3D animated feature via a web cam, bringing the card to life.

The units, produced on behalf of Tigerprint, which produces Marks and Spencer’s own-brand cards, feature a range of six cards and a demonstration screen to allow customers to view sample animation and an instructional video before they make a purchase.

The freestanding units feature a three-tier card display and either a laptop or screen to demonstrate the technology. Ten units have been installed as part of the trial, with the potential for a UK-wide roll out dependent on success.

PLASTICS company Barkston Plastics has strengthened its position within the sustainability market by launching a new website.

The website, www.sustainableoptions.co.uk, showcases a range of products that  are made from 100% British mixed plastic waste that would otherwise have made its way to landfill.

Leeds-based Barkston can also offer companies the opportunity to use their own plastic waste to commission new products from its range.

RH Freight, which has branches in Leeds and Sheffield, has launched a new daily service to Helsinki.

The service runs to the port of Travemunde in Northern Germany before connecting with a daily sailing to Helsinki.

In the absence of daily sailings directly from the UK to Finland, consignments have previously only departed on two days per week.

Deputy managing director Andrew Baxter said: “Offering a daily service to Finland has been a long-term aim and we have been constantly exploring ways to improve our service in this regard and develop the product offering.

“The route via Travemunde allows us to offer a special 72-hour express product to Finland to our customers.”
