Next phase of Leeds’ Whitehall project pits developers against rivals

DEVELOPERS Town Centre Securities are moving forward with the next phase of their Whitehall Riverside development in central Leeds, pitting themselves against rivals MEPC for a government property bid.

Plans for the latest phase include 320,000 sq ft of office space as well as a 500-space multi-storey car park which would be operated by TCS subsidiary CitiPark.

The company has submitted a reserved matters application, moving existing outline permission forwards to enable them to bid for the Government Property Unit’s need for Leeds space.

This puts them in direct competition with MEPC across the road, developers of the Wellington Place development which announced earlier this month that their 7 and 8 Wellington Place building would be in the shortlist for the GPU requirement.

Edward Ziff, chairman and chief executive, Town Centre Securities says, “The Whitehall Riverside area is an exceptional business location with connectivity to the Railway Station, retail quarter and a premier business community.

“We feel fortunate to have been given the recent opportunity to present to the GPU and look forward to our discussions continuing to the next stage. With one of the only remaining riverside opportunities in the city we strongly believe we have a unique proposition for occupiers.”
