Consulting engineers fuel up on Asda contract win

THE appointment onto a national framework by supermarket group Asda has seen Leeds-based Adept Consulting Engineers get to work providing civil and structural engineering services on eight new filling stations for the retailer.

As part of the work, Adept is responsible for designing both the foundations for the overhead canopies and the drainage detail, which has to be approved by the relevant local authorities.

The company is also advising on the installation and support of the filling stations’ underground fuel tanks.

In addition to the current projects that are on-site, work could start on a further 30 new filling stations during 2017.

Paul Gill, associate director at Adept, says: “We’re delighted to have been appointed onto this prestigious national framework and have immediately hit the ground running, with eight projects already underway throughout England and Wales.  Some of these are replacing existing filling stations, and some are brand new ones within the boundaries of existing Asda stores.

“We approach each project individually and there are stringent regulations and legislation in place that every filling station has to adhere to.  This involves creating a complex drainage solution for each one that features advanced fuel interceptors to minimise the risks of pollution from petrol and diesel.  Safety is obviously another key consideration across all these designs and our ability to create bespoke solutions on challenging projects was a major factor in us winning this work.”

Adept was founded in 2007 and employs a team of 30 people in Leeds, Manchester and London, predominantly working across the commercial, warehousing, retail, educational, healthcare and residential sectors, providing a full range of civil and structural engineering solutions.

These include surveys and reports, feasibility advice for new schemes, BIM services, geo-environmental studies, site investigations, conceptual and detailed drawings, flood-risk and drainage assessments as well as highway design.
