PKF Cooper Parry stalwart takes on national role
Tyrone Courtman, partner at East Midlands business advisory firm PKF Cooper Parry, has been appointed chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales’ (ICAEW) insolvency and restructuring special interest group.
Courtman, a chartered accountant with more than 25 years’ experience leads PKF Cooper Parry’s business restructuring, recovery and insolvency services team across the Midlands. He succeeds Angela Swarbrick, a former restructuring partner at EY (Ernst & Young), who has stepped down from the role having retired from professional practice.
The ICAEW is the largest insolvency regulator in the UK. It offers chartered accountants and non-ICAEW members the opportunity to qualify and be licensed as insolvency practitioners.
The insolvency and restructuring special interest group was established in 2012 to provide guidance, support, representation and promotion of the work of ICAEW licensed insolvency practitioners.
As chairman, Courtman will provide strategic direction for the group’s activities, including organising its annual national restructuring conference, which is attended by more than 150 members.
He said: “Having been a fellow member of the ICAEW for more than 25 years, I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the insolvency and restructuring special interest group at a time when restructuring and insolvency practitioners are facing considerable challenges, both from regulators and the market in which they practice.
“By listening to the group’s some 1,400 members on the issues and challenges they face, I will work tirelessly to ensure their best interests are being represented and to promote the best of the important work they do.”
Courtman is also deputy president of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire Society of Chartered Accountants and is a member of the board of trustees for TMA Global and a board member of TMA Europe.
He is a past president of the Turnaround Management Association (UK) and founding past president of the European Association of Certified Turnaround Professionals.
