University gets go-ahead for new events space

Plans by Nottingham Trent University to change a former chapel in the city into a venue for degree ceremonies have been given the go-ahead.
The University will use the former Wesylan Chapel at 48 Shakespeare Street into an events space. The building was built in 1854 with a modern extension added in 1976.
The University will create a new foyer, with the chapel’s frontage opened up with screens of glass, while the extension will be demolished and redeveloped into a music centre and canteen.
The University says it wants to start using the venue for graduation ceremonies from 2018, as well as a base for other cultural events such as its Distinguished Lectures series.
