Student flats plan for prime Nottingham retail street

Plans to develop 16 studio apartments on a high-end Nottingham shopping street have been revealed.

LSG (Nottingham) wants to turn the first, second and third floors of 8 Bridlesmith Gate and 21 St Peters Gate into student flats.

The Grade II listed building is currently home to Molten Brown and The Body Shop on the ground floor, with the upper floors vacant, having been formally offices.

An office feasibility study prepared by FHP Property Consultants said: “It is our opinion that the property is does not generally cater for office use in the current market. This due to in the most part due to its cellular layout and split level floor plates situated over three floors not being suitable for most occupiers – especially with the current level of good quality competing stock that is on the market.”

Planning documents from ID Planning state: “It is considered the proposed development would provide a sustainable form of development which would result in a number of social and economic benefits. A
decision in accordance with the development plan and in light of all material considerations therefore supports the grant of planning permission.”
