Fallen power lines close M1 in both directions

The M1 is closed in both directions in Derbyshire between J29 – J29a northbound and J30 – J29 southbound due to fallen power lines.

Highways England has warned motorists to expect delays.

Police and local electricians are on scene to isolate and clear the power lines.

Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion route:

At M1 Junction 29, exit onto the A617 west & continue for approximately 8km.
At the A61/A617 roundabout, take the A61 north and continue for approximately 2.3km.
At the next roundabout, take the A619 east for 10.4km.
At the roundabout with the A616, take the westbound exit and continue on the A616 to re-join the northbound M1 at Junction 30
Road users travelling southbound are advised to follow the hollow square diversion route:

At M1 Junction 30, exit onto the A616 east and continue for approximately 300m.
At the roundabout in Barlborough, take the A619 south-west and follow for approximately 10.4km.
At the roundabout A619/A61 in Chesterfield (Tesco’s), take the A61 & continue for 2.3km.
At the roundabout with the A617 (Hornsbridge), take the eastbound exit and continue on the A617 to rejoin the M1 at Junction 29
