Law firm Freeths has appointed former Forvis Mazars chief technology officer John Jones as its new CTO as it steps up investment in technology and AI.

Jones will work across Freeths’ 12 UK offices and take responsibility for the firm’s technology strategy, including its IT infrastructure, data capabilities and adoption of emerging technologies.

He joins after more than 30 years working in technology and professional services and was most recently CTO at Forvis Mazars. He has also held senior technology positions at BDO.

Jones began his career as a software developer before moving into technology leadership and has experience working with platforms including Microsoft and Workday, as well as specialist legal technology.

His appointment comes as law firms increasingly invest in AI, automation and data technology to improve productivity and change how legal services are delivered.

Karl Jansen, national managing partner at Freeths, said: “John joins Freeths at an important point in our ongoing growth and development. Technology is central to how we support our people, serve our clients and operate as a modern law firm.

“John’s depth of experience, combined with his pragmatic and inclusive leadership style, will be instrumental as we continue to build scalable, resilient and innovative technology foundations across the firm.”

Jones added: “Professional services, and the legal sector in particular, is going through significant change, and technology has a vital role to play in enabling better outcomes for clients and colleagues.

“I’m excited to be joining Freeths and to be working closely with teams across the business to support the next stage of the firm’s journey.”
