KPMG mulls over Nottingham office location

Ian Borley

The East Midlands head of one of the Big 4 accountancy firms has told TheBusinessDesk.com that his business is committed to basing itself in city centres – but that it may relocate its Nottingham office next year.

Ian Borley, East Midlands senior partner at KPMG, has revealed that the company has extended its lease on its Leicester city centre offices by five years.

“The location of our Leicester office is great for visibility,” he said, “and our intention is to stay there for the long term. Being opposite the railway station has its obvious benefits.”

Meanwhile, Borley says the firm is keeping its options open over whether to stay in its current Nottingham offices on the corner of Park Row and Maid Marian Way.

He added: “There’s no doubt that we want to stay in Nottingham city centre. The lease on our Park Row offices expires in 2017, and we’re looking at a number of options.

“I think it’s vital that we stay in the city centres. Our client base is made of local SMEs and they often want face-to-face meetings. It’s also incredibly useful for us to be in the city centre as it gives us a chance to bump into clients as we go about our business each day.

“All accountants have an intake of young people each year, and these days graduates want to work in the city centre – there’s no doubt about that.”

KPMG employs over 200 people in its Nottingham office.

A full interview with Ian Borley will be published over the coming weeks.
