LEP looks for manufacturing ambassadors
A new board is being set up to promote the manufacturing sector in Greater Lincolnshire – and the call has gone out for ambassadors from the sector to play their part.
The Manufacturing Board is the latest group to be set up by the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership, which is also supported by other strategic expert boards including a Food Board, a Water Management Board and a Visitor Economy Board.
The LEP is looking for leaders in manufacturing to join the board, act as ambassadors for the industry and represent the sector across Greater Lincolnshire.
The Manufacturing Board will take the lead on strategy for the sector and give focus to the delivery of the LEP’s Manufacturing Plan, which was approved in autumn 2016 and is currently being refreshed.
The board will report in to the LEP as strategic board group, and its aim will be to shape and influence future manufacturing in Greater Lincolnshire.
“Greater Lincolnshire has a vibrant and successful manufacturing sector which is worth £3.4 billion a year, or 20% of our total economic value,” said Steve Middlebrough, global head of service manufacturing for Siemens, who will chair the board.
“The sector employs 57,000 people, which adds up to 14% of all employment in Greater Lincolnshire. It is a vital industry for our area and one which presents the best opportunities for growth.
“That’s why we’re creating this board. Manufacturing can make a real and positive change to Lincolnshire’s economy, delivering growth, creating jobs and driving inward investment. Our aim is to focus our efforts and give the sector the support it needs to thrive post-Brexit.”
The closing date for applications is Friday 21st April. Board members are expected to meet four times a year, and the first meeting is scheduled for May 2017.
