70 jobs on the way as £1.2m funding agreed for Notts town centre works
A £1.2m investment in a town centre regeneration project has been agreed by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.
The ‘A46 Corridor’ regeneration scheme around Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire, is being delivered in four phases; with the aim of creating an estimated 2,800 jobs, 27 hectares of employment land and 1,600 homes. Phase One, to create extra employment space on the site of the former Cotgrave colliery, has already begun and should be completed in July (2017).
Phase Two of the works, to regenerate Cotgrave Town Centre and create around 70 jobs, is set to be completed by January 2019. This phase will cost £8m in total – funded by Rushcliffe Borough Council and a mix of funding sources – with £1.2m of that amount having just been agreed by the D2N2 Infrastructure and Investment Board.
Regeneration of Cotgrave town centre, under Phase Two of the project, will include improvements to shop units including upstairs business accommodation, improved public spaces; and the building of a new centre to house police, library, Rushcliffe Borough Council contact point, GP and health centre services, and potentially the Town Council. Contractors are scheduled to start onsite in May (2017), with a view to having all town centre regeneration works completed by January 2019.
Phase Three of the A46 Corridor project will be to enable the delivery of 1,050 houses and 15.6 hectares of employment land, with Phase Four including road widening works around the site of the former RAF Newton base to enable the delivery of a further 550 houses and 6.45 hectares of employment land. In total the A46 Corridor project is set to cost around £14.5m.
Matt Wheatley, growth plan manager for the D2N2 LEP, said: “D2N2 has now invested £3m from its Local Growth Fund to support the continuing regeneration of Cotgrave, providing spaces for businesses to grow and an attractive environment for people to enjoy. This is part of our wider investment programme to support town centres, and promote jobs and growth across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.”
