On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Tom Bower and Pritpal Singh Swarn

Planning and environment specialist Pritpal Singh Swarn has joined Leicester-based Spearing Waite as a partner after spending the last 11 years at Wright Hassall.

Pritpal has over 16 years’ experience – including in the public sector – of dealing with planning, highways, environmental and related local government law issues. He works with the public, private and business sectors.

After studying law at the University of Leicester, Pritpal went to Guildford College of Law to undertake his Legal Practice Course.

He said: “Spearing Waite is a progressively dynamic practice and punches well above its weight. This is an exciting opportunity to grow this discipline and enhance the services offered to both our current client base and also to new clients.”

Head of real estate, Tom Bower said: “We are delighted to have recruited Pritpal. We took on Piet van Gelder last year to head up our construction department and we have already appointed two assistants for him.

“Pritpal will head up the planning and environment department and we plan for similar growth in his team in a similar timeframe. We have always been a strong real estate practice and have one of the largest teams of lawyers in the East Midlands. The arrival of Pritpal means that we can offer the same full spectrum of real estate related advice as more expensive national and London based firms.”

John Roper

Andrew & Co Solicitors, which has offices in Lincoln and Newark, has appointed commercial property solicitor John Roper.

Prior to joining Andrew & Co, Roper worked for a prominent commercial practice in Spalding.

“I was looking to progress my career and move back to Lincoln,” explained John. “When the opportunity became available at Andrew & Co, it was a case of right place, right time as they have an excellent reputation in the area.

“In my previous job I was doing a lot of work in the agricultural sector, which I enjoy and will continue to undertake, but was attracted by this role as it also includes commercial property work which is a bit more fast-paced and challenging.

“Andrew & Co has a high-calibre client base and were looking for someone senior. Part of the role is business development which I also enjoy being involved in. Lincoln is a vibrant city which is going through an exciting period of growth and it will be good to be a part of that.”
