Training firm opens Derby facility

A nationwide specialist in training for the utility sector has opened a dedicated gas industry learning centre in Derby.

Develop Training Ltd (DTL) has installed a fully-functioning gas distribution ring in a neighbouring unit to its headquarters in Ascot Drive, Derby.

The new facility will allow delegates on its training courses – from apprentices to supervisors – to gain hands on experience in the maintenance and installation of gas networks under the supervision of qualified instructors.

Chris Wall, sales and marketing director of the training company, said: “For some time, customers have been asking us to offer a facility like this in the midlands that would provide real world experience in a controlled environment, and we are delighted to be able to respond to that demand.

“With chronic skills shortages in the utility and construction sectors, it is vital that the industry, and training providers such as ourselves, respond with appropriate investment, and we are determined to play our part.”

DTL, which has five training centres in England as well as centres in Scotland and Northern Ireland, provides courses for the gas sector, including apprenticeships, safety courses and management training.
