Alkane Energy powers into the black

Nottinghamshire-based independent power producer Alkane Energy has seen turnover soar for the year-ending March 2017.

Turnover at the company rose from £18.3m for the 12 months ending December 2015, to £31.5m for the 15 months to the end of the March.

The firm has also seen a loss of £8.3m at the end of 2015 turn into a profit of just over £9m to the end of March 2017.

The company operates 28 energy parks in the UK, where it extracts gas from abandoned coal mines an turns it into electricity. It employed just 36 full-time members of staff at the end of March 2017.
