Beer rationing begins at East Mids wholesaler

Booker, the Northants wholesaler bought by Tesco earlier this year, says it has started a rationing programme for supplies of some of its beers and soft drinks because of a shortage of carbon dioxide (CO2).

Pubs, restaurants and shops are being supplied with limited stocks, said Booker.

A spokesperson told Sky News: “Due to the international shortage of CO2, we are experiencing some supply issues on soft drinks and beer.

“We are currently working hard with our suppliers to minimise the impact for our customers and to optimise availability with the stock that is available.

“Therefore, we cannot comment further at this stage.”

The issue has been caused by maintenance work on plants producing CO2. It is not thought that Tesco will be affected by the rationing.
