A new branch of Greggs has opened on Abbey Lane in Leicester, following the long term lease of a property owned by a neighbouring motorcycle dealership, in a deal arranged by property agency Mather Jamie.

Arnolds Motorcycles, which owns the 2,734 sq ft property, formerly a showroom and trade counter for an electric wholesalers, has leased it to the bakery giant.

The owners of Arnolds Motorcycles, who have recently invested £100,000 on extending and improving its own showroom, are hoping the expected footfall from the new Greggs will boost their business, and that their own customers will appreciate having an branch next door.

Piet De Rijk, managing director of Arnolds Motorcycles, said: “We’re very proud of having a Greggs right next door to Arnolds Motorcycles, and are hoping for something of a symbiotic relationship to emerge – our customers love Greggs, and hopefully Greggs’ customers will love our motorbikes.”

Alex Reid, director of Mather Jamie, said: “We were pleased to be involved in letting the premises on behalf our clients and adding the latest branch of Greggs to a prime location in Leicester through this successful lease.

“Abbey Lane is a major route into and out of the city, and Arnolds Motorcycles is a well-established local business which should benefit from having a popular brand like Greggs next door.”
