On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Femi Akinsanya

Loughborough University has appointed a former international athlete as its new director of athletics.

Triple jumper Femi Akinsanya joins the University from England Athletics where he was coach and athlete development manager.

Akinsanya retired from professional sport in 2006 and in 2009 joined British Athletics as an apprentice coach under his mentor Aston Moore. He then moved to England Athletics as a national coach mentor for triple jump and eventually became the national coach and mentor lead for jumps and combined events.

He has previously coached the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Louise Hazel, 2008 Olympic Games silver medallist Phillips Idowu and British paralympic athlete Laura Sugar.

He said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Loughborough University. This is a great opportunity to put into practice the knowledge and experience I’ve previously gained into an environment that is already world-renowned for its sporting excellence.

“I’m passionate about athletics and by strategically bringing together all our disciplines, I’m sure we can go from strength-to-strength, building on the solid foundations which are already in place.”

Elsewhere, Permaroof, an importer and distributor of Firestone RubberCover roofing products, has bolstered its sales team with a new hire.

Terry O’Hare

Terry O’Hare has more than 25 years’ experience in sales, and around 16 in the roofline and fenestration industry. He joins the Alfreton-based firm as regional sales manager for the south of England.

Permaroof has grown rapidly since it began trading as a family business in 1999. Over the past five years, the firm has tripled its turnover organically and, at the start of this year, made its first acquisition.

O’Hare said: “This is an exciting time to be joining Permaroof. The company has big plans for the future and I’m looking forward to being part of those ambitions.

“I pride myself on delivering a high standard of service and offering an individual and tailored customer approach. Sales is a fascinating industry as it’s people-focused, meaning that no two days are the same. The growth opportunities in the south of England are unbelievable and I’m exciting to start raising Permaroof’s profile in this area and showcasing what the firm has to offer to a new customer base.”
